Beans on the Bayou
The Crescent city of New Orleans, Louisiana, is known for its great food, fun, and culture. Historically it is named after Philippe d' Orléans, Duke of Orléans and was shaped by the French starting in 1718. That same influence has remained to touch all parts of New Orleans including the city's architecture, festivals, and least of all the coffee bean.
PJ'S Coffee
Coffee and coffee drinkers especially can be found all over New Orleans. You'll find them on historic and famous Magazine street enjoying coffee while enriching their intellectual palette with the New York times or their cultural flare by reading the Gambit's Best of New Orleans. New Orleans coffee is one of the best at PJ's, a local coffee shop founded by Phyllis Jordan over twenty years ago and using beans from " from Sumatra to Ethiopia, from Colombia to Kenya" to give PJ's coffee its unique and delicious flavor from the Granita, to the PJ's Velvet Ice, to the regular cup of joe, this place is fabulous.
A Little Up the River, Rue De La Course
If you head further up the river toward Oak Street, a live and happening part of uptown, New Orleans you will find more enticing brews at Rue de La Course located at 1140 S. Carrollton Ave. This hot spot is where many locals study for finals, chat over Hemingway, and write about life in the Crescent City. Here you will find some delicious coffee and some aesthetic appreciation. The atmosphere is friendly, staffed by college kids from around New Orleans and sandwiches and pastry treats are served.
A Place "Still Perkin"
Still Perkin Coffee shop is the New Orleans meet up from locals to tourists to everyone in between from couples toasting their Sunday morning together to old friends catching up. Still Perkin' is located at 2727 Prytania Street where, according to City Search, you can go to take the Garden District Walking Tour to see the homes of Archie Manning, Anne Rice, and many more New Orleans celebrities. Still Perkin' is almost always busy, as its hip name suggests, and you won't be sorry to try their Iced Vanilla Lattes, lemonade, sandwiches, and salads when the heat of a New Orleans summer beckons you into the cool indoors.
